july 2009 Worship Schedule

July 5 – Interdependence Day

Today our guest preacher is Rosemary Harris Lytle, President of the local chapter of the NAACP. We explore through worship what it means to be interdependent, relying upon one another and upon the ecology of the earth, even as we celebrate our country’s Independence Day. Communion is served at both services and Children’s Worship is offered for those in Preschool thru 1st Grade.

July 12 – Folk Music Sunday: “For Pete’s Sake”

Today is our annual Folk Music Sunday and we recognize the 90th birthday of Pete Seeger. Rev. Broadbent preaches a sermon on 2 Samuel 6 entitled “The People’s Protest, the People’s Joy.”

July 19 – Open & Affirming (ONA) Sunday

Today is Colorado Springs’ annual PrideFest parade and festival. We remember our ONA designation and consider what it means to be a church of Extravagant Welcome. New member Rev. Trey Austin preaches and Out Loud: The Colorado Springs Men’s Chorus sings.

July 26 – Flute Choir Sunday

Our Flute Choir presents worship music today. Baptisms are celebrated at both services. Barbara Broadbent (mother of our Lead Minister) preaches on the story of Loaves and Fishes and Rev. W. Matthew Broadbent baptizes Sophia Renee Broadbent-Bell.
