Studies. Holding a Ph.D. from Duke University,
Levine has been awarded grants from the Mellon
Foundation, the National Endowment for the

and the fourteen volume edited series, Feminist Companions
to the New Testament and Early Christian Writings.
She is a self-described “Yankee Jewish feminist
who teaches in a predominantly Protestant divinity
school in the buckle of the Bible belt, who combines
historical-critical rigor, literary-critical
sensitivity, and a frequent dash of humor with a
commitment to eliminating anti-Jewish, sexist, and
homophobic theologies.”

The James W. White
Endowed Lectureship Fund
The James W. White Endowed Lectureship Fund
was created as a commitment to build upon the vision,
energy and wisdom  Jim White brought to First Congregational,
United Church of Christ as Senior Minister, 1989-2005.
Jim’s genial, open-hearted, provocative, and passionately-engaging
ministry enriched First Congregational Church for sixteen years.
He guided the congregation through a renewed period of witness
in this community, encouraging and supporting an engaged
spirituality. This process enabled us to declare that we are an
open & affirming congregation, committed even more
to justice and peace, and a congregation proclaiming that God
is still speaking to us even in broken and divided communities.

This endowed lectureship is part of
First Congregational Church’s enduring
commitment to share challenging
perspectives with the wider
community of Colorado Springs.
To contribute to this endowment,
please send your check to FCUCC with
“J.W.W. Endowed Lectureship” on the
memo line.
Thank you!
