JAMES W. WHITE ENDOWED LECTURESHIP
The James W. White Endowed Lectureship in 2007 inaugurated the series with a visit from Bishop John Shelby Spong, and in 2008 brought Professor Walter Brueggemann to Colorado Springs. This year the Lectureship is bringing Dr. Amy Jill Levine as their 2009 lecturer. As many of you will know, the Rev. Dr. James White served First Congregational for sixteen years. His provocative and passionate ministry guided our congregation through a renewed period of witness in this community, encouraging and supporting an engaged spirituality. At every point Jim taught us to enter into our faith more fully and more richly, exploring and drawing upon Biblical and historical traditions. He constantly related wide-ranging lessons of earlier Christian teachings to the complexities of our contemporary lives. Always sharing his enthusiasm for his readings and studies, Jim brought those who have taught him not only to our attention, but often to our pulpit and our community for us to meet and hear. It was to honor his legacy that FCC established the Lectureship.
